## Treaty settlement
Settled 2014-08-06. Given effect by the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims Settlement) Act 2017.

**Cultural redress:** Te Awa Tupua Act 2017 recognizing Whanganui River as a living entity with its own legal rights and interests. Settlement includes Te Awa Tupua concept: 'I am the River and the River is me' (Ko au te awa, ko te awa ko au). Recognition of iwi and hapū inalienable connection with and responsibility to Te Awa Tupua and its health and well-being.
